In 1930 Tagore delivered the Hibbert lectures (THE RELIGION OF MAN) on May 19, 21 and 26 at Oxford. The poet was to delivered the Hibbert lectures in 1928 but postponed it due his ill health. He delivered his lecture at the Chapel of Manchester College before a record audience, L.P. Jack, principal of the college, observed "We shall never forget in Oxford the gift you have given to us and the inspiration you have brought to us."
