India attained Independence on 15th August, 1947. In the first decade of Independence India Post was not fully geared up to come out with First Day Covers of stamps. So during this period we find that in some cases First Day covers were not issued. At this point of time, some creative philatelists/dealers took this opportunity by bringing out some artistic and ornamental FDCs to commemorate respective events.  Their beautiful creations filled the Postal gaps for FDC collection and provided the continuity in collection of Commemorative and Definitive FDCs.

However process of designing creative Private FDCs continued even when the India Post issued official FDC for particular issue. So we find in some cases along with official FDC of India Post some marvelous FDC issued by such enthusiastic and dedicated philatelists and dealers.
