The Rs. 1.03, 'Kalidas Commemoration' stamp, brought out on 22nd June, 1960, was meant to coincide with the then air-mail letter-rate to the UK and some other countries. With an increase of the postage rate to Rs. 1.30, the stamp became somewhat inconvenient for use, and so the surplus stocks were overprinted 'Re 1' for general use.
