Bazar Post Card is the section of Indian Postal Stationery which has fascination and attraction to all levels of philatelists. In the Edwardian period (22 January 1901 to 6 May 1910) of philately, it had a meteoric rise and had deep impact on the Indian philatelic scene. It had a political overtone as these cards did carry pictures of Royalty and Rulers of Indian Princely States. It had also a religious touch as these cards had pictures of Hindu Gods, Goddesses and Mythology in general and Ravi Varma paintings and oleographs in particular.
In the midst of enormous popularity of collecting Picture postcards with a market for images of every conceivable subject, from celebrities to ships, trains, political and military events etc, a small section of Bazar Post Cards with creativity and colors has also attracted many collectors. Just like picture postcards which became an international phenomenon by the turn of the century (1900), Bazar Post Cards had become hugely popular with the masses in India in the beginning of 20th century. These cards gave new direction to philately and postal culture of those days. It also gave a dimension to the use of this mode of postal communication changing its ethos on social, religious, business administration, publicity and propaganda levels.
