Description
:
Bhadrachalam is a pilgrimage town situated on the banks of the river Godavari. On the left bank of the Godavari river, is the famous Sree Seetha Ramachandra Swamy shrine at Bhadrachalam, dedicated to Lord Rama. This temple was constructed in the 17th century by a local Tahsildar named Bhakta Ramadas. It is widely believed that the present town is situated in the erstwhile Dandakaranya forest, where Lord Rama, Lakshmana and Seetha stayed during their Vanavasam and that it was from a place nearby (Parnasala) from where Seetha Devi was abducted by Ravana. There are ferry rides from Bhadrachalam (Kunavaram, Sriramagiri) to Rajahmundry and vice versa, which pass through some amazing scenic beauty.
