In India, woman's clothing varies widely and is closely associated with the local culture, religion and climate. Churidaar is a legwear which is loose up to the knees and fits below the knees with horizontal gathers near the ankles. Churidaars narrow more quickly, so that contours of the leg are revealed. They are also longer Oran the leg and sometimes finish with a tightly fitting buttoned cuff at the ankle. The excess length falls into folds and appears like a set of bangles (churi) resting on the ankle. When the wearer is sitting, the extra material is the "ease" that makes it possible to bend the legs and sit comfortably. The churidar is usually worn with a kameez (tunic) by women which goes below the knees. This also comes with a dupatta, a multi-purpose scarf to cover the head and/or any inadvertent cleavage and the contour of the bosom. However, the use of the dupatta has undergone a metamorphosis over time. In current fashions, the dupatta is frequently draped over one shoulder and even over just the arms. Essentially, the dupatta is often treated as an accessory in current urban fashion.
