Lokmanya Tilak was a great Freedom Fighter. Indian Postal department issued a stamp on his birth centenary on 23 July, 1956. He was also conferred with the honorary title of "Lokmanya", which literally means "Accepted by the people (as their leader)". Tilak was supported by fellow Indian nationalists Bipin Chandra Pal in Bengal and Lala Lajpat Rai in Punjab. They were referred to as the “Lal-Bal-Pal triumvirate”. The philatelists of those days were highly creative and dedicated. They created some innovative philately items, pertaining to Lokmanya Tilak, which were collector's delight. Here some such items are presented.

Remarks
:

Two official covers of Tilak were cut, opened and then joined in such a way that a bigger space was available to pastepicture of Lala Lajpatrai, Bipinchandra Pal along with Lokmanya Tilak. The picture and Tilak's stamps were juxtaposed and they were having a tied first day cancellation. The outlined picture of Tilak is hand drawn on right side of the cover.
