The 27th Annual Conference of the Pacific Area Travel Association (PATA) will be held in New Delhi from January 23 to 26, 1978. The Conference will be preceded by a two-day Workshop in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

PATA was organised  in  Hawaii  in 1951 as a non-profit corporation to stimulate interest in the Pacific and adjoining areas as  a vacation land and to develop, promote and facilitate travel to and among the many Pacific destinations. It is a non-official organisation consisting of tourism  professionals  and  experts,  and has a membership of over 1,500 which includes among others, 33 Governments, major international airlines of the world, important tour operators,  travel  agents, hotel chains, newspapers, travel magazines, etc.

India, which was only an Associate member since 1957, became a full-fledged active member of PATA in 1964. India had also the privilege of hosting PATA's 15th Annual Conference in  1966.

The Indian Posts and Telegraphs Department feels privileged to issue a special postage stamp to commemorate the 27th Conference of the Pacific Area Travel Association.
