Description
:

The vedic land of Haryana, has been the cradle of ancient Indian culture and civilisation where our saints and sages recited the vedic hymns. Legend has it that Haryana is the birth-place of Srimadbhagwadgita. Lord Krishna delivered the eternal message of Gita to Arjuna on this land. The people of Haryana have firm faith in the theory of Karma (action).
Indian traditions regard this region as the matrix of creation or the ‘northern altar’ where Brahma performed the pristine sacrifice and created the universe.
Haryana was created 25 years ago on 1st of November, 1966 as a separate state. This tiny state of just 44, 212 sq. kms. and a population of 163.18 lakhs has managed to make a mark for itself in all fields of human endeavour.
The unprecedented achievements in social and economic fields have made Haryana an example and “symbol of progress” for other states to follow.
Agriculturally, a deficit state at the time of its inception, Haryana is galloping ahead having produced more than 96 lakh tonnes of foodgrains during the last year. It is now contributing 31 lakh tonnes of foodgrains to the central pool.
Power generation has made significant contribution to rapid industrialisation and ushered in a green revolution in the State. Power consumption of the nascent state, which was only 17 lakh units a day at the time of its inception in 1966, has now risen to about 260 lakh units a day while the installed capacity of power generation has risen from 343 MW to 2,234 MW.
Haryana has earned the distinction of being the first state to have provided electricity to all its villages and linked them with metalled roads. Besides, it was planned to provide all the villages with potable drinking water facilities by the end of the financial year 1991-92.
Education and development are inter-woven and thus there has been great expansion in the number of educational institutions. The Haryana Government is now imparting free education to girls upto the graduation level in all government and private institutions.
The Haryanavis, are sturdy and sincere, never averse to hard-work and sacrifice. They are good and hardy agriculturists, excellent soldiers, excellent human material. It is this character coupled with the resources available that has led the state forward.
