Description

In 1860 Bishop Harding and the Cathedral Chaplain founded a Grammar School in Bombay followed by a Girls' School and a Choir School. In 1866, Bombay Scottish Education Society was formed.  The  Society put up a beautiful building and named it after its donor, Mr John Connon, then Chief Registrar of Bombay. In 1922, at the suggestion of the Principal, Cathedral School, a decision was taken for the Cathedral Schools and the Scottish School to work together under the Anglo -Scottish Education Society. The schools were reorganized into the Cathedral Boys' School, the Cathedral Girls' School and the John Connon School. Today the school has  five  sections:  Pre-Primary, Infant, Junior, Middle and Senior Schools. It also has a residential branch.

The academic standards of the school are set high and marks have to be earned through sustained hard work. The school is affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate  Examinations  (CISCE),  and its students appear  for the Council's ISC (Class 12) and ICSE (Class 10) examinations.

The motto of the school is "Ciarum Efficunt Studia" "Studies maketh famous". True to its motto the school for the past one hundred fifty years is imparting education to its students. Students with learning difficulties are given special attention. Cultural activities such as debates, fine-arts and sports are encouraged. In addition, the school encourages  self-reliance,  a spirit of adventure, growth of intellectual curiosity and community service through various school programmes as Well as nurturing its wards.

The Cathedral Model United Nations  simulates the UN and its issues of international importance are discussed and debated thus grooming the students to become familiar with global matters and making them articulate and confident.

The school runs a non-profit organisation named 'Yuva Pratishthan'. The objective of Yuva Pratishthan is to help and provide succour to the needy people of the all sections of the society. By expanding its role, it now works closely with the LTMG Hospital, Sian.

Two teachers of the school have received the National Award for Best Teacher from the Ministry of Human  Resources  Development.

The school boasts of illustrious alumni who include captains of industry, scientists, social activists, doctors, lawyers, actors and writers par excellence.

Like all good schools, no matter how old, Cathedral never stands still. It melds the best of the past with the challenges of the present.
