India Security Press, NASIK Road

Printers name on sheet margins was introduced in fourth definitive series (1965-75) except in 3p, 6p & 8p denominations. The inscriptions were "India Security Press, Nasik Road". This inscription was followed by a code number consisting of an alphabet and a numeral. The alphabet denotes denomination of a stamp and each numeral represents one lac printed sheets. This inscription was printed on Left & Right or Top & Bottom of the sheet.

From 15 November 1971 to 31 March 1973 the India Government levied 5p surcharge on all mails (except post cards, articles for blind, items posted in FPO and state of J&K), Money Orders, First Day Covers and Telegrams) for the relief of refugees from former East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). In order to make the Postal Tax stamps immediately available,  5p Family Planning stamp of 4th Series were printed in very high numbers to meet with the use and demand of those days. They were Overprinted on Machines. However to meet with the demand, the post masters were authorized to overprint existing 5p Family Planning stamp locally. These surcharged stamps were not valid for postage.
