2nd Series - Five Year Plan & 3rd Series - Map Series
Five Year Plan : India's first definitive series of postage stamps issued on the occasion of the Second Anniversary of Independence on 15th August, 1949 had revived memories of the glory of her heritage in art, architecture and sculpture. The Second Definitive Series, brought out on the Republic Day (26th January) in 1955, made an attempt to show the efforts of her people in building a new and healthy India through development of agriculture and multi-purpose projects, cottage and manufacturing industries, transport and communications, and implementation of health-measures through the Five Year Plans.
Map Series : To conform to the change in the country's currency to the decimal system with effect from 1st April 1957, a Third Definitive Series of stamps, with values in naye paise, and each showing the map of India, was issued. While the first issue of the Series were printed on 'Multiple Star' watermarked paper, later during 1958-63 the paper was changed, and all the stamps in the Series were reprinted on 'Asokan Lion Capital' watermarked paper. As the Map Series of stamps went upto 90 np only, to meet the need for stamps of higher denominations, the 1r, 2r, 5r and 10r stamps of the Five Year Plan Series were reprinted on the new paper in 1959.
